“My favorite thing about my team is that we have a big list of talented players, so we can find a way to win,” said coach Ben Wallace. We’ll find a way to keep grinding it, and if you don’t finish your work, I have players who can come in and do that.
UTEP set the tone in the first set, with a 6-1 result run. The killings at Louisiana Tech Jenna Bell made it 21-21, but the mines returned a 25-1 run to win the set.
After a 4-1 run to start the second set, UTEP stuck with the leader. When the Lady Texts tried to collect, the miners had an 8-1 win to gain a 2-0 advantage in the 25-16 game.
The miners used another big race to start the final set. Back-to-back offensive errors from La Tech UTEP sent Howard to win the set and close the match 25-17.
“When they know they are strong and physically better than the other team, it is difficult to play well consistently,” said Wallace. It’s great to be able to sit down with some of your top players and play with some of the younger players and I’m proud to be part of my team.
UTEP travels to Hatisburg, MI to face South Miss October 15-16. The matches will be broadcast on CUSA.tv, with live statistics available.
