GSMA, which hosts the world’s largest trade fair – Mobile World Congress, has said it will bar some Russian companies from participating in the event. During the Ukraine-Russia war, the GSMA partially restricted the participation of Russian companies. The Mobile World Congress is scheduled to take place in Barcelona from February 28 to March 3, 2022. MWW has been plagued by exhibition cancellations due to the ongoing CVD epidemic, but this time the event will be welcomed by many technology companies compared to 2020 and 2021.
Earlier, Reuters reported that GSMA was barring all Russian companies, including carriers, from participating in MWC. However, a GSMA spokesman declined to comment. The spokesman said the company was cooperating with international sanctions against Russia.
“GSMA strongly condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The situation is moving fast, and we understand that various governments are considering broad sanctions against Russia. In light of this fact and in light of the tragic loss of life, MWC appears to be ineffective. MWW is an event that unites the vision of mobilizing the mobile ecosystem into the streets and connecting people, industries and communities. GSMA follows all government sanctions and policies created in this way. There will be no Russian pavilion on the MWC22. The security of the event will be regularly reviewed and adjusted during the release of information, ”said GSMA.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his troops to conduct a “special military operation” in Ukraine. At the time of writing, Russian forces have been stationed outside the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.
Returning to MWW, the event was canceled due to the angry Covide-19 epidemic in 2020; Physical event and use only to virtual event. So far no major exhibits have been released, and Covi-19 cases around the world have dropped dramatically. This is one of the main reasons why this year’s MWC can reach a large audience. Going by the numbers, GSMA says it is expecting more than 1,800 exhibitors and participants from 183 countries.
