Last month, Google announced the release of a new Gmail design for its customers. The option to try out the new Gmail design appears for users at startup, but this time it is completely optional.
The new design brings Google services to Gmail, Chat, Spaces and Meet. The new left-hand bar shows login points for users to switch to one service with one click. Each icon supports notification bubbles that instantly highlight new content. The new design supports hiding the main Gmail sidebar, among other things.
The classic Gmail design lists messages, chats, sections and meeting folders and links, and Google services in the left-hand bar on the left.
Starting April 2022, the new Gmail view will be activated for all users, but then the classic view can be restored. This guide will guide you through the steps to restore the familiar Gmail view. It should be noted at this point that Google plans to launch its classic design from Gmail by the end of the second quarter of 2022. After this happens, users will not be able to restore normal view.
Some Gmail users may prefer the classic Gmail design instead of Google’s new design by 2022. The design will be activated by default next month.
To restore your familiar Gmail interface, do the following.
- If you do not already have one, open the main Gmail website.
- Activate the cogwheel icon in the upper right corner. The question mark icon is on the left.
- Select the “Return to original Gmail view” link that appears when the menu opens.
- The form opens on the page. Select reload to return to the original view. You can type in the reason for going back, but it is completely optional.
- The Gmail website will be reloaded and the normal view will be restored at the end of the process.
Note that the 2022 Gmail design will automatically be activated in the future and there is no option to go back after removing Google preferences from the menu.
Now you: Which design do you prefer? Classic or 2022 design?
