ATLANTA (AP) – Georgia’s suspended insurance commissioner told the court on Wednesday that federal investigators had “ignored the truth in a miscarriage of justice” and that it was “the last chance” to convince them and the wider world. But Jim Beck’s testimony for more than six hours on Wednesday was also an opportunity for federal prosecutors to try to undermine his credibility.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brent Gray mocked Beck when he tried to support the defendant’s claim to serve the Georgian Writing Association, which he paid more than $ 2 million.
The Republican Months after taking office in 2019, he was charged with wire fraud, post fraud, money laundering, and tax evasion.
Last Wednesday’s witness, Jerry Jordan, a mysterious man, used computer brains to make GUA customers pay more and to cut costs for others to take part in the ultimate risk. Beck testified that these measures could help turn government-leased insurance into a lucrative venture.
“The government’s concept of the case has already been determined,” Beck said. There was really an advantage. So I suggest to you, there is no crime without harm. ”
But Beck has admitted that he does not know where Jordan was, that he does not know the real name of the Jordan company, that he does not have a written contract with Jordan, that Bep Jordan offered him, and that Beck Jordan did not have a BP Jordan business card. Beck admits that he lost his way in the Jordan River after moving “westward” in pursuit of the woman he met online.
“He is the secret behind the green tech and the paperless,” Gray said, citing the two companies’ prosecutors.
Beck testified that he paid with the money he had saved in Jordan and deposited in his safe deposit box and at home, and explained to GUA why payments from green technology services and paperless solutions were not withdrawn from their bank accounts.
“I agree with you,” said Beck, “but it was the end of the day I paid for it, and it was done.”
Beck’s main flaw in the case is that FBI agents say Jerry only mentioned Columbus’ Jerry Lucifer, and Beck’s fellow Christian Union activist died in 2014 – there may be another Jerry. After appearing in a restaurant in Jordan and introducing Beck, Luke Ire testified that he met Beck Jordan.
“Every word that comes out of my mouth is a continual lie,” says Beck. “If people believe you, I’ve been lying for five years.”
In the end, Beck pretended to be Matt Barfield, who set up invoices for Green Technology services that collect payments from GUA and husband and wife, rather than Beck’s predictable relationship with Jordan. For GUA contractors
“We are talking because you are telling the truth,” Gray said, asking why Beck had written emails saying “Matt” and “Matt” even once wrote letters to Beck.
“I was not worried about the business I was doing,” says Beck, “because I was doing business with my domain names and emails.”
Gray Beck dug out why he would never tell GUA employees or some of his contractors that they were interested in the job. Beck testified that he received more than 10% of the money paid by the GUA and in some cases even more.
“The financial system was not suitable for the job,” Beck testified. “I have a lot of friends and I don’t discuss my finances.”
Beck said the friends turned around and testified to the prosecutor because they were shocked by the federal investigation and jumped to the wrong conclusion.
“People do what they do when the federal government starts knocking on their door, and sometimes two and two come together and get six,” Beck said.
Testimony continues Thursday
